A Unified UI for All Settings
Overview
The centralization of Settings was a response to years of fragmentation in how configurations were surfaced across Terminal applications. As the product scaled, settings were implemented inconsistently, often buried behind nonstandard patterns and UI logic. This initiative set out to unify the experience by introducing a centralized, system-aware UI that brings structure, predictability, and discoverability to app settings.
Beyond improving usability for clients, this solution also benefits internal teams by removing the burden of one-off design decisions. With a standardized system in place, teams can integrate settings more efficiently and consistently, accelerating development while aligning with broader design principles. This foundation not only elevates the user experience but also ensures long-term scalability across the platform.

Discovery & Research
Current State Sweep
I captured the settings across the top applications on the Terminal. I focused on these 4 attributes:
settings entry point location
overall settings organization & distribution
settings dependencies
semantic language
Client Data
Time the “Help Desk” department spends in client tickets related to settings.
Question types that clients asked about settings (“where do I change…”, “how do I set a default…”, “is there a setting for…”)
Financial & usability impact that this project would have by reducing overall client complaints, time & resources.
Value Proposition Pitch
I created a presentation for stakeholders showing my analysis on the current situation & the impact that this project could have in clients, Help Desk department, Application Teams (designers and engineers), & overall Terminal modernization.

Project status
This initiative is currently on hold due to shifting business priorities, including a focus on AI capabilities and broader UI evolution efforts. Additionally, successful implementation requires significant engineering investment not only from our core team but also from each individual business unit responsible for their respective applications. While the value of a centralized settings system is well understood, cross-functional coordination and resource alignment remain key challenges to moving it forward.
